We Want LUMPY!
I am quite excited to return to coach at Lumpy Waters X! Hosted by Alder Creek Canoe & Kayak, this is the 10th year of the sea kayak symposium (my 4th year coaching). The stoke is SO high at this event where the energy of the sea and participants rival each other. With the event’s location at Pacific City (coastal Oregon, USA), there are ALWAYS waves to be had. Some of sea kayaking’s top coaches are working the event which assures students a prime learning experience.
What excites me most about this event is the unique venue and “game” paddlers. From quiet inlets to beach breaks, rock gardens and caves, coastal Oregon is a sea kayaker’s playground! Paddlers are gathered in the morning and soon a chant of “we want lumpy, We Want Lumpy, WE WANT LUMPY” arises from the crowd.Students are directed to the coaches and then groups are off to play and learn. There are classes and journeys for different skill/comfort levels, fun coaches and amazing support staff. The paddlers at the event are awesome. So many cool people all sharing their stoke about paddling. The event is a celebration of playing on the ocean in small boats!
All participants, coaches and organizers stay at Cape Kiwanda RV Park. The RV park offers a nice mix of tent camping sites, RV sites, cabins and hotel style rooms for lodging options. Meals and Lodging can be booked through the registration process and I’ve always loved how participants, staff and coaches sit together and intermingle at meals and social events. The park is right across the road from one of Oregon’s premiere beaches and a pub (the Pelican). Once you’re at the event, there’s really no need to leave!
The dates are October 12-14 and there are only 10 openings left! For more information and registration, visit www.lumpywaters.com. Check out the forecast below for Cape Kiwanda…I’ll be watching it closely as the event draws near.
